Dual citizenship
(The new law on citizenship comes into force on 27 June 2024)
People with dual citizenship hold passports from two countries.
Until last year, dual citizenship was not permitted in Germany. Anyone who wanted to be naturalised was usually required to give up their old citizenship.
But that will change at the end of June 2024. The changes are based on a draft bill passed by the Federal Government and now also by the Bundestag.
According to the draft, multiple nationality will be permitted in future.
In other words:
Anyone wishing to be naturalised in Germany will no longer be required to renounce their previous citizenship in order to obtain a German passport.
Territorial affiliation will apply from Thursday, 27 June 2024!
People who would like to attend an appointment in our office for this reason should bring the following with them:
- 1 biometric passport photo
- the international birth certificate
- Parentage documents, among other things

Lifting of the state of war
Lifting of the state of war for the territories of the Kingdom of Prussia, the Grand Duchies of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, Mecklenburg-Schwerin and the Duchy of Pomerania
On Monday, 11 March 2024, at 11:30 am, the embassies of the following countries:
• United States of America
• Kingdom of Great Britain
• Russia
• Canada
were notified in writing that the state of war had been lifted over the territories of the Kingdom of Prussia, the Grand Duchies of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, Mecklenburg-Schwerin and the Duchy of Pomerania.
This notification concerning the lifting of the state of war was delivered to the respective country embassies by the representatives of the Allies (prosecutors and judges) and has since been received by local representatives in the sovereign embassies.
The state of war in the territories of the Kingdom of Prussia, the Grand Duchies of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, Mecklenburg-Schwerin and the Duchy of Pomerania is hereby cancelled.
